Systematic base layer snowmaking

Systematic base layer snowmaking - optimize resources, ensure quality

Start the winter season efficiently - with strategy and system

Basic snowmaking in the fall is the first and most important step toward a successful winter season. In Module 1 of our training program, participants learn how to lay the foundation for stable, economically viable slopes through targeted planning, technical know-how and a deep understanding of snow production.

Technical snow - understand, plan, apply

Only those who understand the fundamentals of technical snowmaking can make the most of limited snowmaking windows.

We provide in-depth knowledge on:

  • Physical requirements for snow production,
  • the influencing factors such as temperature, humidity and wind,
  • as well as the optimal positioning of mobile snow guns to achieve the best result with minimal energy and water use.

Given increasingly short windows of ideal conditions, it is crucial efficient resource use.

Snowmaking strategy: hill or area?

Depending on the weather and the time remaining until the ski area opens, it must be decided wether hill-focused or area-wide snowmaking is more effective. Both methods have specific advantages and disadvantages, which are covered in hands-on training in this module.

The goal is to provide snow makers and snow making managers with solid decision-making tools - for maximum slope quality with minimum effort.

Snow consistency & moisture level - for perfect preparation

Another focus is on analyzing the freshly produced snow. Its moisture content and structure influence not only rideability and safety of the slope, but also the efficiency of slope grooming.

Proper handling here saves fuel, reduces machine wear and lowers rework costs.

Main topics in module 1:

  • How technical snowmaking works & key influencing factors
  • Optimal positioning of mobile snow guns to increase efficiency
  • Decision-making aid: Hill snowmaking vs. area snowmaking
  • Identifying and evaluating different snow types & moisture levels
  • Resource-efficient preparation for machine-based slope construction

Your benefits with Module 1:

  • Cost reduction through strategic snow placement
  • Higher productivity of the snowmaking system
  • Reduced effort in base slope construction with snow grooming machines
  • Better understanding of snow consistency and grooming costs
  • Informed decision-making through meteorological and technical expertise
